Review & Description

What’s a Wingnut? It’s someone on the far-right wing or far-left wing of the political spectrum - the professional partisans and the unhinged activists, the hardcore haters and the paranoid conspiracy theorists. They’re the people who always try to divide us instead of unite us.

Wingnuts looks at the outbreak of extremism in the opening years of the Obama administration – from the unprecedented government spending that spurred the Tea-Party protests to the onset of Obama Derangement Syndrome. John Avlon explains how hate-fueled rumors take hold (one section is called “How Obama Became Hitler, a Communist and the Antichrist”), looks at the ‘hunt for heretics’ that is taking place inside both parties and details the rise of hyper-partisan media. Avlon profiles preachers who are praying for the president’s death, goes inside the growing “Hatriot” movement and parallels the “Birthers” and the “9/11 Truthers.” The book compares current merchants of political paranoia with past fear-mongers and finds that divisive demagogues have sold this snake oil before. But the two parties’ increased polarization and the echo-chamber of the internet are helping the fringe blur with the base, making the Wingnuts more powerful than ever before.

We are allowing paranoids, hysterics and hyper-partisans to hijack our politics – but it doesn’t have to be this way. Avlon asserts that centrists need to stand up to the extremes on both sides and declare their independence. The book ends on a hopeful note – the conclusion is “How to Take America Back from the Lunatic Fringe.” Read more

Review & Description

A conservative movement has already begun, but without a sound strategic blueprint for tomorrow, its future success is not assured. This book is a wake-up call. Though some may consider these truths politically incorrect, conservatives need to take a long look at the problems in this country and our responsibility to fight for the values we hold dear. It's time to face the ideological foes of this nation, and beat them in the battlefield of Ideas. It's time for conservatives to take a stand and be accountable. It's time to join the Good Fight! The Noble Rebellion (Paperback)

The Noble Rebellion
The Noble Rebellion (Paperback)
By Joshua G Fensterstock

Review & Description

Freshman Congressman Max Noble gave up his career as a magazine publisher to pursue a life of public service. A botched assassination attempt may have changed his mind. Having lost his wife in the melee, Max ponders his fate at home while the arrogant President Cole delivers his State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress attended by every cabinet member and federal official.

But when a terrorist named "Sultan," murders the speech's attendees on national television, Max's time to grieve for his slain wife is over. Sultan announces that he has taken control of the United States' military facilities, including its nuclear arsenal, and that the once democratic United States of America will now be known as the "Islamic States of America," governed by his new caliphate and its military.

At the Pentagon, General Daniel Harmon, now the highest ranking American military official, determines that the only way to preserve the peace is for all American military and law enforcement personnel to submit to Sultan's rule.

Max is placed in hiding by his top advisors, Bob Dalton and Jack Armstrong, knowing that as the only living elected official of the United States' government, he is a prime target. Despite having no legitimate claim to the presidency under the Constitution, Max is determined to do what he must to restore freedom to the nation.

With absolute power to implement his plan, Sultan begins to govern the former United States in a Taliban-like manner, instituting laws that men must wear beards and that women cannot work in the new, male-dominant society, and enforcing them with violence and a complete disregard for human rights.

Aided by Dalton and Armstrong, Max raises a militia led by John Sharpe, a renegade military leader who refuses to surrender to Sultan. As Max prepares for the impending war, his college girlfriend, Roxy Fidelis, seeks him out with her son, Zach, to provide Max with a support system and become the family he never had.

Max's adventures take him into several battles, encountering many eccentric characters along the way. Max must persevere through numerous challenges, from arena-style duels to a nuclear strike on a major American metropolis to political opposition to his authority. Throughout his ordeal, Max struggles to balance his responsibilities and duties to the American people with those he owes to his newfound family. Ultimately, Max comes to realize that that to truly be free means that each person must choose his or her own destiny, no matter the cost. Read more

Review & Description

In life we control our destiny, but not totally. Luck is involved in everyone’s journey—good and bad luck. What causes this luck is not up to us. It just happens. This novel is about that luck. Yes, there are plenty of decisions made: a detective on vacation decides to harbor an escaped prisoner. Then that same detective decides to pursue the villain who helped put that innocent man in jail. The villain then decides to try to redeem his life by solving another crime himself. A final decision is made by that detective—he decides to kill that villain. However, there is still one more decision. But that wouldn’t be fair; you have to read the book.
Suffice it to say, that the characters in this book have decided the path their life takes. But luck ultimately becomes the main player.
I am a retired English teacher, who has now written ten novels. This is one of them. It seems that nowadays everyone and his dog writes a book, so even though I know that my work has merit, some luck will have to intervene. Maybe you’ll have a fascination with my last name. Let the dice roll.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

John Osipowicz was born in Madison Wisconsin and graduated (cum laude) from the University of Notre Dame. After college he worked in advertising for the Chicago Tribune, but then migrated into teaching, mainly in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Currently he lives across from a horse farm, thirty miles west of Philly. He has a dog old enough for Social Security and a cat so fat it's been mistaken for a raccoon. His hobbies are whimsy and leisure. The key to writing, he feels, is the ability to construct the next sentence.

Review & Description

A man is not apt to forget the instant he becomes a killer; that one fateful instant when he takes another's life. It would not matter that Jack Granger has killed, all soldiers train to kill, except that he is the Democratic nominee in the presidential election of 2020. Having secured the nomination as Governor of Missouri and on the strength of his M-16 Agenda, his political platform developed in the killing sands of Iraq, Jack is days away from the White House when the situation in Iraq and in Washington D.C. changes everything. Now it is a race against time, and his own past, as he makes a last ditch effort to save his bid for the presidency, and possibly the world. From the war torn battlegrounds of Iraq to the halls of power in Washington D.C., M-16 Agenda follows one man's rise to the heights of political power, as he struggles to live up to the promises he made to his fellow soldiers, his family, and himself.
